Inspiring! Uplifting! Encouraging! Three words to describe the past two days at AllWrite!!! Summer Institute.
Katie Wood Ray shared her passion for books and encouraged us to keep reading. Debbie Miller share her thinking in giving students choice in books. Terry Thompson shared how graphic novels can increase comprehension. Ruth Ayres shared her writing lessons from a special swim instructor, Nate, which touched my heart to tears. And, Gordon Korman shared how time to write allowed him to create his first novel – in seventh grade. I am refreshed!
Sounds like the conference has been great for you so far. I’m glad Ruth incorporated Nate and the swim lessons into her talk. His legacy will live on.
Wow. I can’t even imagine such a dose of inspiration. I hope that it turns into some mighty writing.

And I am jealous that I’m unable to be there. Sounds like an inspiring and energizing day. Can’t wait to hear more from all the bloggers that were able to attend. I can’t imagine the wealth of knowledge and ideas that are in those rooms.
I’m jealous too–can’t wait to hear more about it
It’s always great to get a dose of inspiration! Do share after you return home!
Hi again MH! I am still bummed that I didn’t get to spend the past 2 days with you and the rest, but am glad we got together last night. It was SO worth it and I can’t wait to hear more about the conference.
How did your session today go?
Isn’t it great to attend a conference and become inspired? Can’t wait to read about your thinking.
Wow…I can’t believe you got that all into a slice. I still need to process, but planning to have a post up tomorrow about the conference. It was wonderful to attend with you and your session this morning ROCKED! (Mary Helen walked through her process of reading like a writer, giving hints and suggestions to make using mentor texts manageable for teachers. The people around me were RAVING!)
I already felt like I was missing out, but your post really drives home how much I missed. Are you all close enough to present in Springfield, Illinois at the Illinois Reading Council conference in March? Then I can see you!
I wish I had realized that you were at the conference. It was wonderful although I only was there for the first day! It was inspiring and encouraging just what I heard. I’ll try to share some on my blog too. Thanks for sharing! :o)
Oh, what i intended to say was that I would have liked to meet you! I didn’t realize it until I read the paper on my way home! :o(
All I can say is that I hope many share some of the learning that occurred. It sounds wonderful!
