My fourteen-year-old daughter is beautiful. She is confident and able to speak up for herself. She cares for people and is a helper to many. She is… my sunshine of happiness.
One day, she secretly gave me a small trophy labeled: “Best Laugh and Smile Award”. She wrote a note along with it that hangs next to my desk. My Elizabeth warms my heart and makes me proud. Here is what she wrote:
Dear Mom,
I don’t want you to go bezerk when I say this, but I love you! You do everything for us and most of the time we don’t thank you! All of my friends say that you’re really cool. I say they are crazy, but really, you are!
XOXO
Something that makes me smile each day!
What a wonderful gift! Thanks for sharing you bit of sunshine.
I love that you have a daughter that truly likes you. It’s one of the greatest gifts a mother can have!
What a special memento your daughter has created for you.
What a special momento to have. I always find that the small gestures mean the most. How incredibly sweet!
I don’t want you to go bezerk when I say this, but I love you!
Now that’s a perfect line, don’t you think?

Wow MH, what a wonderful thing for a daughter to do for a mom. I’m so glad you shared this with us. Love the “sunshine of happiness” title you bestowed on Elizabeth. It made me remember when we used to call M. our “joyous heart”.
What a fun slice. I enjoyed reading about the positives of having a 14 year old. So often it is the challenges with teenagers that I hear from parents, making me joke that I am just going to enjoy having younger girls for the moment and hope that I will make good decisions once my girls reach that age. It is nice to hear you celebrate one of the many great aspects of that age group!
Your daughter is amazing. I think she is right..you are cool!
What a great relationship you have with your daughter. Not all children would write this to their mom. Thanks for sharing.
